Reverse-olutionaries…

Disclaimer : This is a Woof The Phonocator Rant….don’t get offended y’all…

Is it just me or is talk of a revolution becoming more latent in our community? To tell you the truth I’m beginning to like it this way. As a younger kid, I was led to believe that “yea we need a revolution and everything gonna change and we gonna be in charge!”. But as I matured, thankfully also at a young age, I realized that any thought of revolution in this country is a stupid one.

People always complain in this country, and in great abundance in the Hip-Hop community, about how messed up the United States is. How bad the government is and how bad its people are treated. Many have also said that we have very limited freedom in this country and that we are oppressed. All I can say to these people, if they’ll even listen to sound reasoning, is that they shouldn’t believe the hype and what all these so-called revolutionaries are saying.

It is true that the government has locked up people on salacious charges, but to go as far to say that we are oppressed in this country in comparison to nation across the globe? Apparently these people have never heard of a things such as ethnic cleansing or apartheid. In comparison to the rest of the world, we live like kings and queens in this country whether it be our system of rights, our courts, or our ways of life.

Being someone who grew up in a impoverished area of the city during the period of time before New Yorks wide scale cleanup, I know what it is to want and not receive…but I also learned that you have to take every opportunity that this country gives you and not think twice about it. By the way I never considered my neighborhood “the ‘hood” until I went to a predominately white middle school, and even then I still just called it my home not the ‘hood.

With the CUNY school system and financial aids and scholarship programs that give your free money just for being a minority, ghetto youths have no reason for not bettering themselves except for sheer laziness. I’ve seen single mother of 3 working 2 jobs and going to school, eventually propelling themselves to greater lives. And this in part is what irks me about these so-called revolutionaries. They believe that they deserve everything without having to struggle and work for it. I don’t care what color you are, if you don’t come from money and don’t have a trust fund, then it’s an uphill battle.

The only message that I’m trying to push to anyone who reads this post is this… Don’t believe motives pushed by anger will accomplish anything. Using tactics such as reverse racism and extreme anger will just destroy you and your cause. In the end it’s as simple as just working hard and taking advantage of everything this country can offer. Chinese immigrants and Jews, who I respect because they take advantage of all of this countries opportunities especially in NYC, show what positive organization and commitment can accomplish. So get out there and DUE U!

Although, I believe that a systematic dismantling of the black family structure and positive psyche has led to our disadvantage, my ancestors worked pretty damn hard to level the playing field as much as they could. There was a time when revolution was needed, and in some ways it is still necessary. But now the battle is intellectual. We black folks need to realize our destiny as a people. The elites need to mingle with the brothas on the streets and find a way to come up together. But sadly, I doubt it’ll ever happen. I’m just gonna play my part and hope for the best. But you’re right, there’s plenty of opportunity out there for those willing to work hard.

I do believe that family structure is extremely important. Even something like the big brother programs can lead the youth into something positive. I don’t wanna play the blame game but I will say there are too many baby daddies and not enough fathers out there. The Latino family structure has been rotting from the inside out forever now it seems….I hope for change but it seems farther away everyday.
