‘77…The Best of Times, The Worst of Times…

In 1977 there were 1,557 murders in New York City (In 2006 there were 596). In 1977 there were 179,000 burglaries (down to 22,000 last year). Think you New Yorkers are so tough now?

On July 13th,1977 New York city was plunged into darkness both literally and figuratively. The ‘77 blackout happened during one of the worst times in the cities history. The city was on the verge of bankruptcy and was in complete shambles. The city was almost completely covered in graffiti and the city laid off 20,000 city workers and 5,000 cops. With such misery and despair in the city, anything could spark the end of New York… The Time was 9:34pm…
