I figured since this is considered the “Gods” year (the 7, which is referenced by the The Nation of Gods and Earths aka 5 Percenters), then there’s no better way to pay homage than with a classic hip hop video during the peak of their era. I knew Jaz-O was a Nuwaubian but didn’t know Jay-Z was too. Who woulda thought?

This must have been before Jay-Z was pushing weight back in ‘88 because he looks broke!

Jay definitely does look broke on this joint. That’s what I was tellin the homie the other day when we saw this vid. It kinda looks strange but its a reminder of how much dude came up…

Lol. Yeah, he does. But at the same time, I don’t think overt flashiness woulda been appreciated by the other members of the Tribe.

Yo, you got that Kings County joint he did with Dibiase? I downloaded the tracks some years back. Wasn’t bad at all.

  • Shawn Lee said:

I have a couple of joints off that Kings County but I need to get the full mixtape. I think I only have “love is gone”. Still madd at him for flakin on Jay like dat, they made some dope joints together….

    Incredible. Thanks for that.

Sometimes, I wonder if Jay-Z would have been this successful in his career if he had of stuck with that Twista tongue steelo that’s present in this video? When Tongue Twista first came out back in the day, he made no waves with that style, but some years later it actually came back and turned into something popular.

I dug the Kings County joint too! I wonder why they never made another album?

  • Shawn Lee said:

Real talk, I think that Jay would have done well if he stuck with that Twista flow. He really started perfecting it on that joint “I Can’t Get Wit That“. Shit was kinda fever. I dug that style, he was fast but he did it with clarity. Shit ain’t ez

^Word on the street a couple years ago was that Jaz-O stiffed DiBiase (pause) for some dough. I don’t know how accurate that is, but person I heard it from was allegedly a good friend of DiBiase.

OMG, I forgot all about this video. SMH @ this footage almost being 20 years old. Jaz-o looked like the dude on greenmount & 33rd that sell tupac t-shirts & smell goods.
